Week 17 (Compiled Final Report FYP 1)

For this week, the task that i have done is compiling the final report to send to my supervisor which is Sir Zulhilmi bin Mustafa. Previous Friday, i have sent the draft of my report to give my supervisor comment about the report. There are plenty of things that I need to do such as add the reference based on what fact that I already use in the report. The reference type that I need to used for this report is IEEE. I also need to resize the picture that are in the report to make it clear. Basically, this week, I add some of information to complete the project report

Week 16: Progress Report (Chapter 3: Methodology)

Methodology is the systematic, theoretical analysis of the methods applied to a field of study. It comprises the theoretical analysis of the body of methods and principles associated with a branch of knowledge. For this week, i am doing the proposal report for chapter 3 which is Methodology. The contents that need to put in this chapter is shown below. Block Diagram Schematic Diagram Circuit Diagram Gannt Chart Components Used Software Used Below is the Block diagram of this project Basically, there is Input, Process and Output that need in the block diagram. The input for this project is Power supply to powered up the Raspberry Pi and Website Interface from the Internet of Things (IoT) platform. Next, it will be process to the Raspberry Pi, and Raspberry Pi command the Relay to turn ON or OFF the electrical appliances which will be the output of this project. The display and LCD 16x2 and website interface will shown the condition of the electrical appliances.

Week 15: Progress Report (Chapter 2: Literature Review)

For this week, i am doing the task for the proposal report chapter 2 which is Literature Review. In this chapter, it is about the review of the preview method and existing project that has been produced. Based on this project, it is related to the home automation system. There are three existing project that has been selected to make this proposal report which is: Bluetooth Based Home Automation System using mobile phone Design of An Intelligent Voice Controlled Home Automation System Smart GSM based Home Automation System  There was three method that has been used for the previous project to control the electrical consumption which is: By using Voice, Bluetooth and Mobile Phones  By using Application Smart Phones and Bluetooth By using Smart Phones and GSM After doing the research and the report for Chapter 2: Literature Review, i can related that, every project has their advantages and disadvantages.

Week 14: Progress Report 4

Last week, i have ordered at Autobotics Sdn. Bhd for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+. The price of the Raspberry Pi at these shop quite cheap compare to the price at Jalan Pasar. The price of these Raspberry Pi is about RM 166.00 for the Raspberry Pi Board only.  At Jalan Pasar, the price is quite different which is RM 220.00. There is a lot of different cost of Raspberry Pi between Autobotics Sdn. Bhd and Jalan Pasar. Actually, there is new model of Raspberry Pi which is Raspberry Pi 4, but i preferred to choose Raspberry Pi 3 model B+ because it is much cheaper and still compatible to make this project. The specification of this Raspberry Pi is shown above. Week 13: Progress Report 3

The task that i am doing for this week is to survey components and cost for the components. Actually, i have list the main components that will be used for this project. Week 12:Progress Report 2

Based on previous week, i have do research about the Raspberry Pi specification, so for this week, i am doing research about the software that related to this project. Basically, the software that need to be used at Raspberry Pi is Rasbian software. So what is raspbian? Raspbian:   is a free operating system based on Debian optimized for the Raspberry Pi hardware. It is an operating system that set of basic programs and utilities that make Raspberry Pi run. However, Raspbian provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over 35,000 packages, pre-compiled software bundled in a nice format for easy installation on Raspberry Pi.  Rasbian needed to run raspberry pi. For this week, i also done a little bit about the report for chapter 1 which is objectives and the significance of the project. For this week, i meet my supervisor which is Sir Zulhilmi to confirm that my report contained is right.

Week 11: Progress Report (Chapter 1)

The task that i focus for this week is Chapter 1, which is the introduction of the project. For this week, i'm going to the library to do research about the title that relate to the my project. Basically, my project is about Energy Management System by using IoT and Raspberry Pi. The contents that should put on this chapter as shown below. Chapter 1: Background of the Project Problem Statement Objectives of the project Significance of the project Scope and Limitations of the project Chapter Summary For this week, i am focusing on doing background of the project and the problem that related to this project.  

Week 10: Preparation for the Proposal Defense Day

In this week 10, i was preparing the slides and understanding about my project. The slides need to be 8-15 slides and will be present within 5 to 10 minutes and 5 minutes for Q&A. The content of the slide are Introduction, Objectives, Problem statement, Scope & Limitations, Literature review, Methodology and expected results. Based on this presentation, i will know the weakness and the advantages of this project comment by the assessors. Week 9: FYP 1 Briefing covering: FYP Proposal Defense Day and Submission of Progress Report & Proposal Report

For this week 9,  the briefing has been held from the FYP committee to give the tips and trick for the next week presentation about the proposal defense day. The briefing was conducted by Sir Imran. The were some tips that got from this briefing which is: Be confident which the proposed idea Do research about the details of project Must know what the project limitation Make preparation for the presentation Practice how to answer the question from the assessors Make sure the assessors understand about the project

Week 8: Workshop on Methodology (Chapter 3), Preliminary Result (Chapter 4) & Abs

For this week, students need to held at TTL 2 to hear the briefing about how to write the report on Chapter 3: Methodology, Chapter 4: Preliminary Result and Abstract for final year project 1 report. The FYP committee guide on how to write the following chapter. Week 7: Raspberry Pi

Research 2 For Week 5, i am doing research about the main microprocessor that will be used in this project which is Raspberry Pi. So what is Raspberry Pi? Raspberry Pi  =  is a series of small single-board computers developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to promote teaching of basic computer science in schools and in developing countries. Nowadays, there are four generation of this microprocessor produce and the latest generation is Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. It was released in June 2019 with a 1.5 GHz 64-bit quad core ARM Cortex-A72 processor, on-board 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, full gigabit Ethernet (throughput not limited), two  USB 2.0  ports, two  USB 3.0  ports, and dual monitor support ( 4K resolution ). Week 6: Workshop on Introduction (Chapter 1) and Literature Review (Chapter 2) Writing

For this week 6, students for FYP 1 need to be held at TTL 2 for the FYP committee to brief about the format of Chapter 1, which is the introduction of the FYP 1 report and Chapter 2 for Literature Review Writing.  Students need to follow the format so that student can continued the report for FYP 2 next semester. Week 5: Research 1 and change title

Change Title IoT Home Automation is a common title of this project. My supervisor decided to change the title for week 4 meeting.  Sir Zulhilmi decided to change this project title as "Development of Raspberry Pi - Based IoT Energy Management System which an acronym called "RPI4EMS".  Research 1 For the first research about this project, my task is to know what is Internet of Thing (IoT). So basically, IoT is act like a platform by using internet connection. IoT can be done without internet connection. Which IoT, people can save data at Cloud Platform, and can open it to many devices such as phone, laptop and so on. With IoT, they can access their data within limit if they have internet connection

Week 4: Proposed Project Idea

In this week 4, i am showing my supervisor about the idea of project. Based on the 5 ideas on that i have researched, my supervisor interested on one of the project titles which called "IoT Home Automation Based on Raspberry Pi. My supervisor and i choose this project because, firstly, in my diploma final year project, i have done Home Automation too, but it is using Arduino UNO. So, i planned to improve my previous project by upgraded the project by using Raspberry PI. It is because, it is giving me advantages to know about other microcontroller or microprocessor such as Raspberry Pi. Based on my researched, Raspberry Pi microprocessor was developed day by day. This is an opportunity for me to learn about this microprocessor because it can give me fundamental knowledge about raspberry pi and the program that will be used which is "Python language program.

Week 3: Introductory FYP 1 Briefing

In this week 3, the FYP committee do the briefing about the FYP timeline, which is what is the weight age percentage of the mark. Below is the following weight age for the subject FYP 1: Presentation Proposal = 35% Progress Log book = 30% FYP 1 Report = 35% The input that i got based on this briefing is, all of the work progress need to be recorded and need to look supervisor every week to complete the final year project 1 report and work progress

Week 2: Finding Supervisor

After getting the idea about project, for this week, i am going to find lecturer that can help to supervise my upcoming project. Based on the project that have been gathered, it is all about the electronic project, so i decided to find the lecturer that in electronic department. After find all the lecturer, i decided to choose Sir Zulhilmi bin Mustafa as my supervisor to supervise my upcoming final year project 1 and 2.

Week 1 : Searching Project

For the week 1, firstly, i need to find the idea of the project, so i'm searching the idea through internet, library and asking random lecturer about the idea of any project that i want to make. This is the hardest part, because "if you failed to planned, then you planned to failed". ​ As the result, i found 5 types of project that can be come out for my project. these are the list of 5 names of project that can be make for my project: Commercial Power Saver Project​ Fingerprint Based Exam Hall IOT Asset Tracking System IOT Home Automation Using Raspberry Pi Android Home Automation Using PIC ​

About This Project

This project is about the management current system of  any place that using electrical energy. This project can be apply to house,office and also factory. Its because nowadays, there is no such of product that can easily control the uses of electricity. This project uses IOT based on home automation system combined with Raspberry Pi. So the purposed of this project is to control the system and save the current usage in our daily life.
